ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN: HAVE YOU SEEN HER?

Who is she? Have you seen her? Do you know her? She is an Artist from Chicago, using the media against it's self. Instead, she is using the media and her self-created logo and promotional campaign to market herself as an Artist to make it in these economic times.

Date:
Saturday, March 14, 2009
Time:
12:00pm - 5:00pm
Location:
Cermak Road and Marshall Boulevard
City/Town:
Chicago, IL
Description
While we face the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, our government is handing cash to bankers at home and pouring our tax dollars -- a trillion-plus and counting -- into foreign wars that murder, maim and violate people's right to decide their own future.

The reality is that there is no "good" war – in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iran. Our arms to Israel make their war OUR war, as well.

Decades of U.S. policies have imposed unequal trade agreements on immigrants' home countries that destroy local economies -- forcing people to move here to seek the living wages they can no longer earn at home. The new administration has continued Bush regime policy toward immigrant workers, and is using the economic meltdown as a tool to recruit more immigrant, minority, and poor youth to fight rich men's wars for oil and power.

Please join us for a united Chicagoland march to oppose continuing U.S. wars abroad and war on immigrants at home:

Saturday, March 14, 2009 12 noon SHARP
Aassemble for a short rally, followed by a march.
Marshall Boulevard & Cermak Road
(2 blocks from the "California" stop on the Pink Line "el")

*

We invite all Palestinians and their supporters to join in a Palestine support contingent at the March 14th, 2009, city-wide anti war and immigrant rights rally and march.
we will join over 75 other organizations in co-sponsoring the following Chicago area action on the 6th anniversary of the illegal U.S. invasion of Iraq . This year's march will be in Chicago 's Pilsen neighborhood, partnering with local community groups to oppose the government's wars abroad while opposing the attacks on immigrants here at home.
Besides the slogans for the main rally (details below), our contingent will be demanding:

Freedom and Self-Determination for the Palestinian People
End the Siege on Gaza
End the Occupation of Palestine
Right of Return for Palestinian Refugees
Freedom for Palestinian Political Prisoners

We will provide posters with this language, but bring your Palestinian flags and meet us at Cermak Road and Marshall Boulevard at 12 Noon on March 14th; there will be a huge Palestinian flag there to mark our territory! You won't be able to miss it!

Ranting Rampage

I went to a few art shows this weekend. The first one, was one that I had applied to and did not get accepted to. I am not going to name any names, but it was not what I expected. I walked in and all the work were made by women which was really great and motivating. I started to realize that the women were much older and much wealthier and were staring at me and my friend like we were odd balls. I saw a few works that stood out to me. I thought that a gallery where women can feel apart of something, would be more inviting. It is really sad to see that those women were so judgemental.

The second gallery was in Wicker Park. It was large photographs of rock stars and it didn't really say much to me. My friend and I walked in and were aggresively ordered to sign in, it was really crowded and we could barely move. There was a line and it seemed like people were writing a novel. Meanwhile, we were waiting on the side by a sculpture set on a glass stand, the price was like $7000 and someone had set their pen on the stand. It was by the sign in table where people were crowding around. It was a scary thought if it had been my piece. When it was my turn, I scribbled my name and gave them a junk email account. Everyone there was dressed like they were trying to be cool and not really themselves, and it seemed like they were really there for the alcoholic beverages, really. I didn't feel comfortable there either and left.

The last gallery was the A. Okay Official on clark street, it has a storefront and in the backroom was a gallery, where they had japanese pop inspired illustration artwork and a dj not pretencious at all. It had an Urban quality that I had longed for that night. Finally, I felt that I was in the right environment, where it was okay and it didn't matter where and what you looked like, everyone was welcomed.

I felt that what I have learned was that I too have to choose wisely where I would like to show my artwork because It creates an environment and energy that I want to be positive and welcoming.

Join us and let the Mexican government know we will not stand quiet until the Mexican government takes appropriate action. In May 2006, following a police crackdown on protests by a peasant organization in San Salvador Atenco, Mexico, over 45 women were arrested without explanation, dozens were subjected to physical, psychological and sexual violence by the police, and more than 2
years later, none of the officials responsible for their abuse have been prosecuted. The women still wait for justice. Had this scandal occurred in the USA, the public would be outraged and would demand that those responsible be brought to justice. We will be silent no more!
